Disturbing Recording Shows Point Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
A senior officer that leaped to the aid of a colleague who was ambushed by a knifeman received the Royal Recognition for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a blade to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a road collision in that location in mid-2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.
"Policeman knifed," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashcam video released by the police department depicted Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife extended.
He struck the officer who stumbled and fell to the ground, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and attempted to subdue him to the ground even though being multiple times hit with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a open target, ending the fight to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sgt Ansell suffered two open wounds to his neck and more cuts to his arms and body, whereas Sergeant Foster experienced slash wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to emergency responders reached the scene.
This most recent recognition follows subsequent to the trio of policemen received organizational Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional union branch in spring 2024.
They additionally received a Area Bravery Award in summer 2024.
"The actions of the entire team eventually rescued themselves and ensured no members of the public endured any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, as stated by officials.
